Informations mises à jour pour les courts de Hampstead

En plus des horaires indiqués ci-dessous, les membres du CSL Tennis peuvent appeler directement les courts de tennis au 438-872-4605 le jour même (sans réservation préalable) pour savoir si un court est disponible.

We’d like to inform you that the City Council is assessing the situation thoroughly and will be in a position to provide an update regarding the club status as well as refunds soon.

We are expecting to share a further update with you the week of September 8 (most probably on September 10th), after which we will share any new developments with you.

Updated information for Hampstead Courts

In addition to the designated times below, CSL tennis Members can call the tennis courts directly at 438-872-4605 on the same day (no advance booking) to see if a court is available to play.

Allocated Times for CSL Members:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 2 courts available from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Friday: 3 courts available after 7:00 PM

Saturday and Sunday: 2 courts available after 4:00 PM

Update on August 21, 2025

Dear Côte Saint-Luc Tennis Club members,

As a precautionary safety measure, the City has decided to keep the Tennis Club closed until further notice. This decision was made after a recent discovery that a product used to maintain the playing surfaces contained asbestos at levels exceeding Canadian standard. Safety and respect for environmental standards remain a priority for the City of Côte Saint-Luc.For more details, please consult the expert report prepared by Groupe SolAirEau.

We have put the supplier of the Har-Tru material in default.

While Tennis Club courts remain closed, we encourage you to use the hard-surface courts located at Caldwell Tennis Courts and Rembrandt Park. You can use these without charge. For the Rembrandt Park location you need to reserve by calling 514-485-6806 (between 7:45am to 3:45pm daily).

In addition, the City has secured some court times for our Tennis Club members at Town of Hampstead tennis courts. Although times are limited for the moment, we are working to arrange more availability as of the week of August 25.

How to use the Hampstead tennis courts (free of charge)

Allocated times for CSL Tennis Club members are the following:

· Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 2 courts available from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM

· Friday: 3 courts available after 7:00 PM

· Saturday and Sunday: 2 courts available after 4:00 PM

Please note the following important conditions:

· All Côte Saint-Luc Tennis Club members must present a valid ID to the gate attendant.

· Court reservations must be made by calling the tennis courts directly at 438-872-4605 (anytime), or weekday office hours at 514-369-8200 ext. 2.

· Should you choose to attend as a guest with a current Hampstead member then the Hampstead fees and rules will apply.

We recognize that the temporary closure of the Côte Saint-Luc Tennis Club is not what any tennis lover wants. We are taking this action because it is the prudent option given what recent testing has found.

We will keep you informed when we have additional information to share.

Par mesure de précaution et pour assurer la sécurité de tous, la Ville a décidé de maintenir la fermeture du Club de tennis jusqu’à nouvel ordre. Cette décision a été prise à la suite d’une récente découverte selon laquelle un produit utilisé pour l’entretien des terrains contenait de l’amiante à des niveaux supérieurs à la norme canadienne. La sécurité et le respect des normes environnementales demeurent une priorité pour la Ville de Côte Saint-Luc.

Nous avons mis en demeure le fournisseur du matériel Har-Tru.

Pendant queles terrains du Club de tennis demeurent fermés, nous vous encourageons à utiliser gratuitement les terrains en surface dure situés aux courts de tennis Caldwell et au parc Rembrandt. Pour le parc Rembrandt, il est nécessaire de réserver en appelant au 514-485-6806 (entre 7 h 45 et 15 h 45 chaque jour).

De plus, la Ville a réservé certaines plages horaires pour les membres du Club de tennis aux terrains de tennis de la Ville de Hampstead. Bien que les disponibilités soient limitées pour le moment, nous travaillons à élargir l’offre à partir dela semaine du 25 août.

Comment utiliser les terrains de tennis de Hampstead (gratuitement)

Dear Member,

Following recent media reports of asbestos in Har‑Tru clay courts, the City immediately arranged for our clay courts to be tested by specialists. We received initial results on August 15 confirming that further testing is needed. The lab advised a precautionary closure of the club in the meantime.

The safety of our players and staff is our first priority, so we have suspended all play until the issue is fully resolved. In fact, Côte Saint‑Luc is not alone in taking action. Several Quebec municipalities have closed their tennis courts amid asbestos concerns.

According to federal safety standards any asbestos level above 0.1% is not acceptable. We expect to have detailed lab results later this week, which will guide the next steps. In the mean time, we are contacting Quebec public health and CNESST (the provincial workplace safety agency) and will follow their guidance on any remediation, if required.

While our clay courts are closed, we are looking at alternate options for members. We will communicate any support or solutions as soon as they are arranged.

We know this is inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience. We will update members immediately once the follow‑up lab results are in.

À la suite de récents reportages médiatiques faisant état de la présence d'amiante dans les courts en terre battue Har-Tru, la Ville a immédiatement pris des dispositions pour faire tester nos courts par des spécialistes. Nous avons reçu les premiers résultats le 15 août, qui confirment la nécessité de procéder à des tests supplémentaires. Le laboratoire a recommandé la fermeture préventive du club dans l'intervalle.

La sécurité de nos joueurs et de notre personnel est notre priorité absolue, c'est pourquoi nous avons suspendu toutes les activités jusqu'à ce que le problème soit entièrement résolu. En fait, Côte Saint-Luc n'est pas la seule à prendre des mesures. Plusieurs municipalités québécoises ont également fermé leurs courts de tennis en raison de préoccupations liées à l'amiante.

Selon les normes fédérales de sécurité, tout niveau d'amiante supérieur à 0,1 % est inacceptable. Nous attendons les résultats détaillés des analyses en laboratoire plus tard cette semaine, qui nous permettront de déterminer les prochaines étapes. Côte Saint-Luc Tennis Club – Temporary Closure

Following recent media reports about the possible presence of asbestos in Har-Tru, a material used to maintain clay tennis courts in several Quebec municipalities, the City of Côte Saint-Luc took proactive measures to have our courts tested by a specialized firm.

We received the initial results this afternoon (August 15, 2025). While the findings are not yet conclusive and further testing is required, the firm conducting the analysis recommended temporarily closing the Tennis Club. As a precaution and to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff, we have decided to follow their guidance.

We are working closely with experts to carry out the necessary follow-up tests and will provide updates as soon as more information is available. Our priority is to address the situation responsibly and transparently.

Thirty-two other court facilities on the island are currently closed until further analysis.

À la suite de récents reportages médiatiques concernant la présence possible d’amiante dans le Har-Tru, un matériau utilisé pour l’entretien des terrains de tennis en terre battue dans plusieurs municipalités du Québec, la Ville de Côte Saint-Luc a pris des mesures proactives afin de faire analyser nos terrains par une firme spécialisée.

Nous avons reçu les premiers résultats cet après-midi (15 août 2025). Bien que ces résultats ne soient pas encore concluants et que des analyses supplémentaires soient nécessaires, la firme chargée de l’analyse a recommandé de fermer temporairement le Club de tennis. Par mesure de précaution et afin d’assurer la sécurité de nos usagers et de notre personnel, nous avons décidé de suivre cette recommandation.

Nous travaillons en étroite collaboration avec des experts pour réaliser les analyses de suivi nécessaires et fournirons des mises à jour dès que de nouvelles informations seront disponibles. Notre priorité est de gérer la situation de manière responsable et transparente.

Trente-deux autres installations de tennis sur l’île sont actuellement fermées jusqu’à nouvel ordre, en attendant des analyses supplémentaires.

We are planning to open the courts on May 12, or possibly sooner, depending on the progress of work currently taking place in Kirwin Park, which is temporarily affecting access to our parking lot.

PC Courts is also diligently working on preparing the courts. We’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Important Update on Tennis Club Membership Payments

Early Bird registration is now open, but due to the Recreation Department's implementation of new software called "Amelia", all Tennis Club membership payments must be made at the Aquatic and Community Centre. The new system requires in-person transactions at the ACC for this year.

TORONTO — Denis Shapovalov has surged back into the ATP Tour’s top 40 after completing the biggest tournament win of his career.

Shapovalov, from Richmond Hill, Ont., moved up 22 places to No. 32 in the rankings released Monday after defeating Casper Ruud on Sunday in the final of the Dallas Open.

The 25-year-old Canadian posted three wins over top-10 opponents — Ruud, Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz — en route to winning the first ATP 500 title of his career.

Shapovalov, a former world No. 10, has been on a steady rebound since seeing his ranking fall to 140 last summer.

Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won two ATP 250 events early this year before sustaining a toe injury last week at Rotterdam, is Canada’s top male tennis player at No. 22.

On the WTA Tour, Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que., is the only Canadian in the top 100 at No. 27.

Canada Wins First Billie Jean King Cup Title

Team Canada, presented by Sobeys, has won the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time in the nation’s history.

Marina Stakusic and Leylah Annie Fernandez delivered straight-set singles win to give Canada a 2-0 victory in the final over Italy.

After Stakusic took the first match in the tie between Team Canada and Italy, Fernandez made quick work of Jasmine Paolini in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to give the country its first-ever victory at the Billie Jean King Cup.

Canada was bulletproof in its path to the title. In its ties against Spain, Poland, Czechia, and now Italy, the team only lost once match. The team played with such fervor and intensity that an early elimination never quite seemed to be in the cards.

From the moment the match began, Fernandez was locked in. It didn’t take long for the Canadian to take the lead as she started the first set by breaking Paolini’s serve. Though the Italian would come close to doing the same in the following game, Fernandez maintained her composure and held her serve.

Paolini then fought back, holding her next serve and breaking Fernandez in the fourth game to even the set. From there, Fernandez didn’t stumble once. She went on to hold her next two service games and break Paolini’s serve twice for a quick route in the first set.

The second set went down in a similar fashion as Paolini held her first serve to take her first and only lead of the entire match. Fernandez took the next three games in a row, and while Paolini held her third service of the set, it wouldn’t get much closer than that.

With a 3-2 lead in the second set, Fernandez saw the title was within reach and flipped a switch. She held her serve in the following game then converted a break point to bring the title within a single game. Paolini, with her back against the wall, broke Fernandez’s serve in turn, but could not hold hers in the final game, leading Canada to the victory.

Paolini’s final service game went into a deuce but the Canadian wasn’t intimidated by the stakes and finished the match with a massive break to notch the Billie Jean King Cup title for Canada.

While Fernandez was solid in her service games. Her ability to convert six break points across both sets was the difference-maker. She remained undefeated all week – and all throughout the event in 2023 – and helped make history for Canadian tennis.

Stakusic caps off dream week.

Marina Stakusic defeated Martina Trevisan in straight sets in the opening match of the final on Sunday to set up Fernandez’s finish.

As she has for much of the week , the Canadian seemed completely unphased by the occasion, handling the ups-and-downs in the biggest match of her life. Despite the Italian’s persistence, Stakusic was able to put her away 7-5, 6-3 to give Canada the lead.

Despite the straight-set scoreline, the match was tight with Stakusic hitting just one more winner than her opponent. The Canadian took advantage of Trevisan’s second serves, winning 76 per cent of those points, which contributed to her six breaks on 13 opportunities.

Playing in the biggest match of her life and one of the biggest matches in Canadian tennis history, Stakusic looked completely at home as she opened with a hold to love and then ripped a big return to break for a 2-0 lead.

Canada has been a problem from Trevisan at the Billie Jean King Cup and when she held serve for 1-3, it was the first game she had ever won against Canada in the competition.

But that hold sparked the Italian, who started to find her range and got Stakusic stuck on the defensive. The result was four straight games for Trevisan who set herself up to serve for the set at 5-4.

It was then Stakusic’s turn to go on a run, immediately setting up triple break point and converting the second to get back level at 5-5. The Canadian then held and broke one more time, claiming the last three games of the opening set.

The second set got off to a wild start with five of the first six games of the set going against the server. Three of those five breaks were in favour of Stakusic. The Canadian had four chances to close out the match on Trevisan’s serve in the eighth game, but the Italian hung tough to put the pressure of serving out the match on the Canadian.

But Stakusic did not let the missed opportunities get to her. She easily held to love to put Canada on the verge of winning title.
